I have found and fixed the issue of Serum crashing when I would cycle through presets.
Jan 12, 2018 It would appear that Serum’s CPU usage inefficiencies are largely overstated. Compared to Massive, a popular competing wavetable synth, Serum performed significantly better on both desktop and laptop. That said, I was able to get the Ableton processor meter up to 20% on the Mac Pro simply by asking it to generate 128 voices.
Dec 22, 2017 Wavetable comes with Ableton Live 10 Suite. If you are already going to upgrade, you are in luck. If you have Standard the upgrade is around 300. Serum is (currently) $189. Which is a great price as well. When it comes down to it though, I think of Wavetable as free if you want the full pro version of Ableton Live. Yes, its up to date. The crashing revolves around making my own wave tables on serum and saving them. During Saving it crashes Ableton. Ableton Crashes way more though using Nerve and DADA life. Aug 06, 2016 If you are still getting crashes go back to%APPDATA%/xfer/ and delete everything in there. This will make Serum rebuild everything from the ground up. Some times the user.dat file is messing things up. And, if that STILL doesn’t work for you it is almost certainly a corrupt preset pack. Below you will find out how I went about fixing this type of error in Serum. However, it was fixed back in 2016. So, if you are experiencing it, you might be using a cracked serum? You should probably but it. Best synth on the market and free-for-life updates!

**UPDATE**
I have spoken with Steve Duda and he has informed me that the update that was released today (Aug 6, 2016 v.1.112) should resolve the issues people were having.
If you were using the Splice plan log into the desktop app and click the Plugins tab. It should show you that Serum has an update available. GO GO GO
I had just bought Serum via Splice through their new rent-to-own scheme. I was super pumped. I installed it and opened it up… but, that’s when the trouble began.
Every time I would start auditioning presets Serum would crash – taking down Ableton Live with it.
I tried letting the database build itself completely. I tried re-installing. I tried letting each preset load for a couple seconds.. that seemed to work a little, but the problem persisted. Plus, even if that method worked 100% of the time, talk about a workflow nightmare.
Luckily, the fix is simple enough.
On a Windows machine right click the Windows icon and select the Run command. Then copy this command line
%APPDATA%/xfer/
Paste that into the Open input of the Run window.
That will bring you to Serum’s appdata folder. There should be another folder and a .dat file. You want to erase the .dat file titled Serumpresetdb.dat. Apparently the file gets corrupted from time to time.
Don’t worry about it. Once you re-launch Serum let it rebuild the database completely. Once it’s done you should be able to use the synth without any issues or crashes.

If you are still getting crashes go back to %APPDATA%/xfer/ and delete everything in there. This will make Serum rebuild everything from the ground up. Some times the user.dat file is messing things up.

And, if that STILL doesn’t work for you it is almost certainly a corrupt preset pack. Remove all non-factory preset folders. Then, one by one, add the third party packs back until you get the crash again.
